For those of you connecting with Jacob's page, especially friends from Spain, we wanted to share some photos of our recent trip that reminded us of Jacob's time there and reminded us he was with us every day. We followed most of his itinerary that we found when we discovered his journal from the trip all written in Spanish.

Words are hard.
Jacob, while I met you only several times, I thought of you often. Not just in class at the many times your mother referenced you - your joy, your fighting spirit, your endless faith and courage - but also when life seemed trying and pettiness overwhelmed. You invoked in all whose lives you touched unwaivering strength and courage and the importance of staying focused on the important things - family, friends, faith. Love.
I pray for all who knew you to emulate your actions and way of living, to keep your life message strong.
Lani, my good vibes will be directed to you and your family always. |

I had the pleasure of sharing some moments with Jacob over the last couple of months. Both he and his family provided me with great perspective and support for a charity fundraiser I was doing in Hawaii for brain tumour research and awareness.
The memory that sticks out in my mind, as I continue my own battle with a brain tumour, was Jacob's view on faith. His subtle yet brilliant comment was "Never lose faith". I could see his perspective in his actions. Each day is a new day. Each moment is unique. Each memory is irreplaceable. If one gets too caught up in what might happen they could forget the gifts that come from living each moment to its fullest. As such, don't lose your faith.
Thank you Jacob. My condolences to family and friends. |

My family and I had the privilage of spending some very pleasurable time with Jacob last time he was in the states with his family. In the short time I spent with him I recognized a great gift within him. He had a way of putting things into perspective and grasping what is really important in this world. Jacob, I admire your strength, your courage, and your insight, you will be sorely missed. As long as you have love you have life! Although his physical presence is no longer with us, Jacob will live on in our memories of him and our continued love for him. |

You get to see and be with God who has loved you since the day you were born. Thanks for all the memories, the laughs, and the good times we had together. It was great seeing you when you could hang out with us. I know one day we will meet again. God bless you. |

Howzit Jake,
I'm gonna miss all the memories we shared together. Like going to Jack in the Crack, and body surfing at Sandy's and Point Panic. The thing that I'll miss most is your crazy sense of humor. You were always trying to get a smile out of me and everyone around you. I'm really going to miss the Beavis and Butthead impersonations, "eHehe, come to Butthead." You were truly one of my best friends and I'll never forget you brah! I'll see you in the afterlife.
Love you always, your friend Kamalani |

In my memory, Jacob will always be a lovable energetic rascal full of endless curiosity and a strong spirit, not to mention gorgeous eyes and a killer smile.
A huge hole was created when Jacob found his peace. With faith, we trust that he is in a much better place and that God in His Mercy will help us deal with that hole.
Please accept my love and prayers for your family now, Jake. |

At a very young age, Jacob taught the Sysko Family the acronym for BIBLE--Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth--and he exemplfied the way to live throughout his life. Now that he is with his Heavenly Father, we will always remember his sense of humor, wisdom, and honor for his family. |

Hi Jacob, I met you once when your sister brought you to school. You were in the midst of your long battle with this horrible disease, called cancer. It is with deep sadness to hear of your passing, and can only know you are resting, free of pain with our good Lord in the heavens above. I feel very humbled and gratetful to have met you, if only briefly, but through Paloma's numerous emails, full of wisdom and love, I have learned to reflect on my own blessings god has given me. Life is too short everybody, don't sweat the small stuff, love your family and friends each day for you never know what lays around the corner. To the Almanza family, I offer you my deepest condolesences, thoughts and prayers. Aloha, Michele Baquiro |

Rest easy, my cousin. God has work for you to do at his side, I'm sure. Your time here amongst us on Earth may have been far to short, but you are in God's hands now, forever. We'll meet someday down the road, my friend... |

Hey Jacob, I assumed that the next time we'd see each other would be at our High School reunion. No worries though, we will have our reunion one day in a bigger and better place. Your entire Maryknoll family will keep your memories alive...we'll surely miss you!!! To the Almanza family, you are so blessed to have shared your lives with someone with so much faith, spirit, and happiness. Please accept my deepest condolences during this extremely difficult time. |

Although I haven't spoken to Jacob in almost a year, I always regarded him as a close friend, almost like a brother, dating all the way back to our carefree days in high school when we would both play Basketball together for endless hours at a time. One thing I always noticed about Jacob was his happy demeanor about everything, even through the bad times. He always kept his head up high and put a smile on his face because it just seemed like he appreciated life...a lot more than I did. He was there for me when I was growing up and I will never forget the precious friendship and happy memories we had throughout our adolescent years. I miss you man...you will always be in my prayers and I know now that you are in a better place...I also send my blessings and prayers to Jacob's surviving family (thank you to Jacob's parents for being there for me throughout high school...my thoughts and prayers are with you as well). |

I listened to Lani today speaking of seeing a shooting star and friends seeing a honu poking his head out of the water where they had scattered some flowers and I thought of how Jacob had touched our lives, my life. For me Jacob will be in the small miracles; a star, a honu, a rainbow, the love of family and friends, just appreciating each and every day. Thank you Jacob. Aloha |

Well, Jake...i suppose this is goodbye, but not forever. We'll see each other someday again, and when we meet up we'll both be in full health and basking in total splendor. I admired your courage in high school drumming for an otherwise underdog band. I'm sorry for not getting to know you better, but i suppose we'll have a lot of time to make up for it when I catch up to you. My prayers to your family...Merry Christmas...God bless. I'll end on a funny note, but this will probably be looked at as rather strange, but here goes. When we were freshman (or beforehand, actually) I think i met you in summerschool, perhaps it was in weight training. Anywayz you were one of my 1st highschool friends. 2ndly (heres the wierd part) I envied your guns man. There I said it :) and now im submitting it. God bless, bro. |

My favorite memory of Jacob was when he was a young boy. Cielo and I took Jacob and Joshua to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie in Kailua. He was always laughing, playing games and that smile of his was oh so cute! My sincere condolences to the Almanza family. |
