We celebrated Jacob's birthday with a hamburger and fries dinner (one of his favs) and his third annual beach clean-up in Kailua.

We hope more people will be able to join us for both events next year.

The clean-up included mom, dad, myself, cousin Colleen & her dog Kimo, Joshua, Lea, Jacob William in the tummy, Aunty Lisa, Aunty Kaonohi and Uncle Nathan Aipa. Thanks to Cielo we had awesome "grabbers" to pick up the trash!

April 1, 2007

On Sunday, April 1, 2007, I met with my mom, our friend Jessica (who we met through Colleen), Aunty Amy Crews, Jane Corley, and Sally and Emma Mix at my grandparent's house in Kailua. We all brought gloves and trash bags!

It was a clear and sunny day and we were ready to gather trash. The water was like a huge lake, flat and glassy. After an hour of picking up trash, the water was calling. We jumped in to spend even more time with Jake celebrating his birthday. I am thinking this will be an annual event because that morning it all went smoothly and Jake was there the entire time.

So, put it on your calendar now! It is no joke, April 1, 2008 the 2nd annual bday beach cleanup will take place. I look forward to seeing all of you help me, help Jake to make a difference.

Paloma, his one and only BIG sister

Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that today I was interviewed by KHNL 8 News, telling Jacob's story and our connection to Relay For Life. If you would like to view the video clip, log on to www.khnl.com tomorrow, March 2. It should be posted by then.

"A Mom's Loss Becomes Mission to Save Lives"

From Jack (12/05):

"Jacob's friends on Maui (the ones who taught him to dive and introduced him to the Honu) scattered blossoms on the ocean the day after Jacob returned home. The sea was like glass and the blossoms floated beautifully on the surface. They started taking digital photos to share with us, when all of a sudden a honu swam through the blossoms. How's that for Jacob's playfulness!"

From Lani (12/05):

A special gift was given to Jacob, and our family, when a star was registered in his name. It is in the Aries constellation and to find it (with a telescope or star chart), here are the coordinates...

RA3h26m59.60s D23degrees22'42.43"

It is near the cluster known as Pleiades which in Hawaiian lore is the Makalii, the star that begins the makahiki season, and is in Hawaiian skies from October to April. The night of Jacob's passing the star was directly over our house.

The following day was the polar full moon and the first "official" day of the whale watching season in Hawaii. There is a time for everything...
