Aloha Family & Friends,
We wanted to thank you for your continued love and support. The cards and well wishes we received were a reminder of how much Jacob has touched this world. We appreciate the thoughts and prayers as we celebrate his life. Once again this year we decorated the tree in his honor with his beloved honu. We hope you had a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.

On September 20th, Paloma, Joshua, Colleen, Anne & Mike Moriarty participated in Celebration on the Hill in Washington, D.C., where Jacob represented the State of Hawaii with such aloha.
"The Wall of Hope monument was one of the largest temporary monuments ever in the National Mall, and covered 3 city blocks. It consisted of 5,000 local banners with signatures of over 3 million people. It included a banner from each state with a personal story, and the banner with Jacob was 10 feet wide by 16 feet high. Jacob liked BIG!!"

1500lbs. for Jake!
Cielo trained daily during his deployment with Jakey as his motivation. He always referred to him as the "toughest man I know". Back in June he decided to compete in the ship's next leg press competition. In the last competition 1225 lbs. was the winning lift/press. Jacob took Cielo to new levels of strength physically, mentally, and spiritually.
From Cielo 7/12/2006: "We have the power to do awesome things." Jacob Almanza 10/7/04...that's what I kept saying to myself today during our ship's leg press competition. Jake was my inspiration for entering the event. Winning lift/press 1500lbs. -- Jacob Almanza (I was just his stand-in body double). |

Honu The Green Sea Turtle
The beautiful books of Barbara E. Berg, former teacher and now ocean enthusiast and author, continue to educate the community about the HONU and perpetuate Jakey's love for the HONU and other ocean creatures.

The Honu Platter - "The Journey Home"
"Created in memory of a dear friend, Jacob, who recently made his journey home. Jacob loved the ocean, especially the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle ("Honu").
For every piece with a honu design (i.e. platter, vase, mug, etc.), 10% of the purchase price will be donated to the Maui Ocean Project in memory of Jacob." -- Grant Oka, OkaEtchWorks |

From Jack (12/05):
"Jacob's friends on Maui (the ones who taught him to dive and introduced him to the Honu) scattered blossoms on the ocean the day after Jacob returned home. The sea was like glass and the blossoms floated beautifully on the surface. They started taking digital photos to share with us, when all of a sudden a honu swam through the blossoms. How's that for Jacob's playfulness!"

From Lani (12/05):
A special gift was given to Jacob, and our family, when a star was registered in his name. It is in the Aries constellation and to find it (with a telescope or star chart), here are the coordinates...
RA3h26m59.60s D23degrees22'42.43"
It is near the cluster known as Pleiades which in Hawaiian lore is the Makalii, the star that begins the makahiki season, and is in Hawaiian skies from October to April. The night of Jacob's passing the star was directly over our house.
The following day was the polar full moon and the first "official" day of the whale watching season in Hawaii. There is a time for everything... |

JOSHUA had this idea to paint a mural in honor of Jakey and his love of ocean life. Colleen Moriarty helped as much as she could, Paloma added some damage which is now painted over, Lani painted the two yellow tang, and Jack worked on his favorite Koolaus. |

On December 14, 2005 at 10:00pm, Jacob returned home.
A Celebration of Life was held for Jacob on December 23, 2005, at St. Ann's Church in Kaneohe.
At the end of December, Jacob's ashes were scattered in Kailua Bay and on Maui.
Thank you to all who have expressed their condolences and prayers for Jacob and the Almanza family.
